The Bridge House Hotel, Dorset Wedding Photography

Emma & John were married at Poole Guildhall before celebrating with family and friends at The Bridge House Hotel, a riverside wedding venue tucked away on the banks of the River Stour in Dorset.

While their ceremony took place in the centre of Poole, the reception at Bridge House Hotel offered a completely different atmosphere; relaxed, scenic, and surrounded by nature. With views across the river, beautiful gardens, and peaceful outdoor spaces, it was the perfect setting for an informal and personal wedding celebration.

A relaxed riverside wedding venue in Dorset

Beautifully situated along the River Stour, the Bridge House Hotel combines countryside surroundings with easy access to Bournemouth, Poole, and Wimborne. The venue offers a really relaxed feel, making it ideal for couples wanting a laid-back wedding day.

The hotel itself has 49 refurbished en-suite bedrooms, many overlooking the river, allowing guests to stay onsite and fully enjoy the celebrations without needing to travel elsewhere afterwards.

For weddings and events, the venue offers both the larger Riverside Suite and the smaller Club Room for more intimate celebrations.

Natural wedding photography at the Bridge House Hotel

One of the best things about photographing weddings at the Bridge House Hotel is the variety of natural backdrops within such a small area. From the gardens and riverside pathways to the bridge itself, there are plenty of spots for relaxed portraits.

The weather on Emma & John’s wedding day was far from ideal, with heavy rain arriving shortly after the ceremony. Thankfully, there was just enough of a break in the weather for us to head outside and capture some beautiful portraits around the gardens and bridge.

Planning Ahead for Relaxed, Natural Wedding Photography

Moments like this are why preparation matters so much. Before portraits, I always like to walk around the venue with couples to pick out locations in advance and create a simple plan for the day. It keeps everything running smoothly, avoids unnecessary stress, and means couples spend less time away from their guests.

A good wedding photographer should help the day flow naturally, capturing everything efficiently while still allowing couples to fully enjoy their wedding with family and friends.

Final thoughts

Emma & John’s wedding was a brilliant example of how two completely different venues can work perfectly together, a historic ceremony at Poole Guildhall followed by a relaxed riverside reception at the Bridge House Hotel.

Despite the challenging weather, the day never lost its atmosphere, and the riverside setting gave us plenty of opportunities for natural, candid photography throughout.
